North Park on the move

John Ruhnke, the International Co-op teacher at North Park Secondary School, and his band of exchange students dropped in to thank our club for supporting their co-op program with AFS/Interculture Canada.
Two students Marchela and Melanie said their one month experience in Paraguay was a life-altering experience. Both students are considering teaching or working with young children as a result of their co-op placement.
The international co-op experience is organized by AFS/Interculture Canada, a volunteer-driven educational movement.The organization encourages learning and development through international exchange programs for youths and adults.The AFS network includes more than 50 member countries.
North Park has sent students to Paraguay in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and is now planning a sixth year of participation.
The students prepare for their South American adventure for almost a year, raising all of the funds needed for the trip - about $6,000 each. To do this, they hold fundraising activities that range from car washes and garage sales, to golf tournaments and casino night, all sorts of imaginative ventures. In fact, as part of the program, the students learn how to raise money through leadership activities.
