Jack Corney introduced new member James Ramsbottom, who was inducted this year as a new Rotarian. James is a Patent Agent with Gastle & Associates. He has a long history of family members being Rotarians. He was born in Dundas, both his father and uncle were Rotarians. His mother was a Rotarian and received the Paul Harris award for her community work.

James studied at McMaster University. First he started in Life Sciences and then finished his degree in Biochemistry and biology. He married his wife Sarah last spring in Gravenhurst. They lived in Triestre Italy, where he had a lab in a castle. They have two dogs known as Satan and Lucifer.

As James practice is Patents and Intellectual property he gave us a brief introduction to a bit of History of Patents, which came from England. And something about the " Robin Hood Method" of new and inventive concepts – Does anyone have any new concepts these days?

He pointed us to a "Patentability" search and our chances of success look pretty slim and "chancy" if you don't fill out an application on time. There was something about coffee and a mixture with broccoli with cold water called Broccolifee?? This turned in a big seller in England!

So don't forget to file a "patents application whenever you invent something, otherwise consider yourself out of luck. If your application gets accepted, as a Canadian you are able to keep your rights longer apparently.

The Paris convention sounded interesting, that's if you have a US Provisional Application and there you have it. So do file your applications in all 39 countries and you may have to do it all over again in 30 months.

4. Create your own monopoly and sit on it.
