New hospital update

Bob, although only having been with the hospital for the last 18 months, has a wealth of experience having formerly been the treasurer of the Region of Peel, and Metro Toronto, as well as having experience in industry with the Laidlaw Company.

When the new Brampton Civic Hospital campus opens in July 2007 it will have 608 beds, with the associated Peel Memorial Hospital campus having 350 and Etobicoke 250 beds, making it the largest community hospital (not a teaching institution) in the province. It will have 700 physicians and 4000 staff.  

The province is kicking in 70% of funding for the new hospital building,but leaving it to the local community to raise the other 30% of the building cost, plus 100% of the $250 million price tag for equipment for the new hospital.  The hospital foundation has its fund  raising work cut out for them.

The new campus will not be a trauma center -- nor have neurosurgery performed., nor advanced cardiac surgery.  So  you won't have your bypass done there -- but perhaps your angiogram  or angioplasty.

The old Peel Memorial campus is expected to be kept,  not as an acute care facility, but more likely for ambulatory care.  It needs a new powerplant and extensive renovations.
