New hospital on track for 2007

Anne Randell, CEO of William Osler Health Centre Foundation and Dr. Tom Dickson, Chair of the Foundation, told our club they need to raise $100 million to support the new Brampton hospital. This represents the community's portion of the hospital's cost and the foundation is looking to corporations, organizations like Rotary and individuals to meet this goal.
Dr. Dickson provided an update on the hospital, saying construction is underway and completion is expected in July 2007.
The new hospital will have 608 beds in more than one million square feet. In addition to the existing services provided at Peel Memorial, the new site will also house a cardiac procedure suite, cardio-respiratory and electro-diagnosis services, surigical suite and day surgery unit. The new hospital will also be a regional dialysis centre and house a Level 2 and neo-natal intensive care unit, psychogeriatric services, expanded cancer care and cardiac care programs.
"This will be a modern facility, like no other, with state-of-the-art medical equipment," Dr. Dickson said.
And while the new hospital is forefront, Peel Memorial on Lynch Street is a significant part of the long-term plans for health care in this community. The site will be re-developed for acute services, including 112 complex continuing care beds and 32 regional mental health impatients beds. The site will also provide ambulatory procedures, outpatient surgery and rehabilitation, dialysis and diagnostic services.
