New challenges at Sheridan

Michael Arthur introduced Jocelyn Piercy, Dean of Sheridan College. Enrollment is up this fall, software development up by 12%, there has been a large increase in the trades area.

There is a challenge in the types of students. The Government is giving $28,000 to people who are laid off to go back to school.

For second career students, Sheridan is paying attention to quality; the McGuinty Government wants colleges to focus on retention. The number of international students is tripling and the colleges need to provide pathways to learn English.

A global mandate is being incorporated into the program and Sheridan is preparing students for a Global Community. In preparing students, there is a manufacturing course and an industry projects course that includes plant layout. Students get to work on real projects. Sheridan is open to working with the community.
