NBL BRAMPTON A’s

Welcome to Head Coach Dave Magley of the Brampton A’s. Coach Magley is a former draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played in both the NBA and in the Continental Basketball Association. Also present at our Rotary meeting was Cedric Moodie of the Brampton A’s. Cedric is the oldest player in the league (35 yrs. old) and he is the leading scorer.

Coach Magley spoke about the goals of the Brampton A’s which is to provide opportunities for young people in the community to train. They have looked at several cities and chose Brampton because of the demographics. As they dig deep into the community, they have put together a group of people of different backgrounds to find out what’s best for the community; what can we do to better impact the community? Coach Magley is looking for the help of Rotarians and he has players who are willing to serve. They are having a great year as a team. The team is significantly different from T.V. players; they are much smaller but fast! There are four Canadians and the rest are Americans. Basketball is more popular as a participation sport than hockey in Canada and is much more affordable.

Coach Magley has invited Rotarians to a special game to thank them for their service to the community and President Carole is looking at February 28th, more details to follow.
