Memories of war
Posted by Don Weaver
Bob McIntyre introduced Ewan MacDonald, well known to many members. He spoke movingly and interestingly about his many years of service in the British armed forces.
In his distinctive brogue he spoke about the many privations, and experiences in his many years of service in many theatres: Korea, and ultimately through to Egypt & the Canal Zone, the middle East in general and being seconded to the Arab Legion.
He spoke glowingly of his comrades and experiences, and how wasteful war was and is. He spoke humorously about the need for lice powder & rum rations in Korea, through to the logistics and never-ending bureaucracy of trying to get all the way home from the Middle East and becoming stranded for weeks at a time when almost home.
Al Heaney thanked Ewan for an interesting and worthwhile talk, appropriate on Remembrance Day, and also thanked Major Bert and Chris for the Remembrance Day service.
