It is difficult to write about Major Bert Sharpe because he does not like to talk about himself. So we will talk about him instead.

Bert was introduced to our Club and was introduced for his Classification talk by President Elect Sheila Winsor.  Sheila is herself an Army brat, a Salvation Army brat that is.

Bert grew up in a home that was a refuge for those who needed help so helping others is in his blood.

Major Bert worked as a pastor in an inner city church in Ottawa for 13 years.  He also has a history of helping others following disasters.  He was at Ground Zero in New York shortly after 9/11 and was in Louisiana following Katrina. Perhaps we can get him to talk more about himself as time goes on.

In his talk he drew several parallels between the work of the Salvation Army and the work of Rotary and our Clubs long history with the Honeychurch Family Life Resource Centre.

He is not new to Rotary having served as President of the Rotary Club of Ottawa Bytown. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and will be an important addition to our Club.  Welcome Major Bert Sharpe.
