Joan's Classification Talk

Joan was born in Yarmouth N.S. during the war and raised in Jamaica where her grandparents had been in business for many years.
She finished school there and went on to study nursing in Montreal at the Montreal General School of Nursing, which was affiliated with McGill University. Upon graduating she specialized in Dialysis and the kidney transplant unit.

She married, had two sons, and was divorced- one son lives in New Jersey, the other in Whistler- both are married and she has 2 grandchildren in BC.
She started her second career in Real Estate in 1975, and became a Broker 3 years later, after which she managed a branch office for Royal Trust in Georgetown Ontario.
She returned to sales in 1981 with what was then a new company called ReMax- now the #1 real estate company in Canada- and she has been in management and sales with ReMax ever since, with the exception of the past 2 years when she lived in B.C.
She has been active on both the Brampton and Toronto Real Estate Boards over the years serving on the education, ethics and discipline committees.
She joined Big Brothers/Big Sisters and became an in-school mentor 6 years ago- until her student moved out of the area, and she found it to be a very rewarding experience.
Three years ago she moved to Whistler BC to be closer to some of her family. She was invited to join Rotary after a few months of living there, and she also obtained her BC Broker's license.
The BC RE market crashed so she had a lot of time to spend being active in Rotary, and on the golf course!
Joan returned to Ontario at the end of 2009 to be closer to her eldest son who had been diagnosed with NonHodgkins Lymphoma. He is doing very well, and she is currently back with ReMax working in sales out of their Main St. office. She feels very honoured to be a member of the Brampton Rotary Club, and thanks Dittie for introducing her to this club.
