Juan Pablo (J.P.) realized that the importance of exchange, which helps break down cultural and language barriers just by living amongst his host families, all which were very different.
The first few days he felt like a tourist and was excited just to see a squirrel and at two months felt frustrated because he still could not tell a joke in his new language.
He compared language learning and learning a new culture to skating. There are lots of falls before the smooth path ahead.
He realized upon reflection of his year that it's not just the experiences one has as an exchange student, but what you do with those experiences.
