David Simmons says Rotary exchange changed his life.

David Simmons says his year in New Zealand had a profound effect on his life, helping to forge his sense of responsibility and independence.

"It challenged my physical, mental and moral framework," he told the club at last week's meeting.

David will graduate from high school this year and plans to take a degree in political science and economics before entering law school.

David said he went from being a complete stranger with his host families to good friends.

During his time he was active as a prefect in his high school, an actor in a local theatre group and a motivational speaker for youth facing challenges.

It was a tremendous experience and without your generous support I would not have these stories to tell. I thank and commend you," David told the club.

"Because of Rotary, 7,000 students will learn the importance of being an individual; it's the experience of a lifetime."
