Interact Club gets its Charter

The Interact Club at St. Augustine School received its charter at our last meeting May 12, from District Governor Janet Coates and President Jerome.
Interact is a Rotary sponsored high school service club. The Interact club started in 2001 and the students are required to complete one international project and one community project per year. It is really impressive to see this group of students and they were presented with their pins.
President Jerome, the incoming president of the Interact Club and District Governor Janet Coates all signed the charter agreement and there was a welcoming standing ovation for the newest interact members.
Some of the projects that that the students of St. Augustine's work on include a soccer tournament, Grade 9 dance and helping out at the Salvation Army Crisis Centre. Their mission is to give back to the community and the world.
David Simmonds gave a brief speech. He said that he thought that everyone passed the 4-way test and we were all there to celebrate the success of members of the Rotary Club and the new Interact Club.
Interact members have made a decade commitment to support the family resource centre and they were presented with a plaque to be display in the resource centre to remember their 10 year commitment.
There was an auction of donated art by Canadian artists, starting at $100 bid. All proceeds will go towards the the building of schools in Nicaragua. It's very inexpensive to build schools there - they can be built for $5000 to $10,000.
President Jerome concluded by asking "why did our club choose to sponsor an Interact club? Because it's most rewarding, it gives Rotarians a chance to mentor young men and women, to spread the word of knowledge of Rotary and to spread the word of service above self."
