In Remembrance
The meeting opened with Veteran George (Potties) Burrows, from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15 playing the Last Post. This was followed by a reading by Wendell Brown, and a stirring video "A Pittance of Time".
A reminder that it is important to mark what is important in our world - and two minutes each November 11 provides a chance to think about the contributions of our veterans, their families, and our armed forces.
Peter Ward, spoke as a seasoned veteran on Remembrance. His own career as a part-time soldier included his service as 2nd Lieutenant with an excellent Senior Sergeant Walton, who mentored and kept him in line.
Peter shared the fact that the average age of veterans in the west is now 18 ½ years - young people who have seen the horrors of war and who are often scarred for life from the experience. They must be noted and appreciated for their contribution to peace.
Civilian volunteers are also to be remembered for their work. Peter urged us by do nothing that causes conflict - and by this, promote peace. Peace-making is Canada's role in the world and this should not be forgotten. His final note - Remember - Lest We Forget!
