For K'Arissa Fletcher and Angie Zardo, Sunday, March 2nd, was a day of excitement and emotion.
On that day they joined 23 students from across our District gathered at Rotary Glen to find out their destination for their upcoming Exchange year as part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program.
On that day they joined 23 students from across our District gathered at Rotary Glen to find out their destination for their upcoming Exchange year as part of the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program.
The students were selected by individual Rotary clubs last November. K'Arissa and Angie, both from Mayfield School, are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brampton.
In January they attended District interviews and in February they spent four days at a winter wilderness camp along with the 25 Inbound exchange students currently in our District.
The District Youth Exchange committee used the interviews and camp to become familiar with the strengths and expectations of the students before deciding what country would be most suitable for them.
On Announcement Day the students are called up, one at a time, to open a sealed envelope that will reveal to them in which of 15 countries they will make their home away from home for one year. K'Arissa is going to Brazil, Angie is going to Japan.
Their picture, Angie left and K'Arissa, suggest they were pleased with the choice. Over 150 people were at the Glen as family and friends gathered to share this important day with the students.
