Dr. Mohit Singla, Pediatric Cardiologist, William Osler Hospital

The Rotary Club of Brampton welcomes Dr. Singla. Dr. Singla came to William Osler Hospital two years ago from Sick Kids Hospital. He is involved in the Pediatric Lifestyle Clinic at Osler to help children manage obesity and the risk factors associated with it. He educates people that obesity is a big deal. One in five deaths is linked to excess weight. In 2007, the estimated rate of obesity among Canadians was 25%. In view of this problem, the Ministry decided to fund a program called Lifestyle Clinic.

This program involves information session, an initial group session on nutrition and physical activity and monthly visits alternating between seeing a Nurse, Dietitian, Pediatrician and Kinesiologist.

The goal is to educate and motivate families to make lifestyle changes to improve health outcomes. Throughout the year, families can attend education workshops like cooking classes, grocery tours, fitness workshops and self –esteem and body seminars.
