Family Life Resource Centre needs help

Marilyn Field, executive director of the Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre, says renovations that are underway will help meet a growing need for women in crisis.
"It's not uncommon to have women show up with black eyes or broken limbs at any time of the day. Most difficult is watching children who have no life in their eyes. It's difficult for all of us."
The centre works with women and children to provide the support they need to build self-esteem. "It's the biggest concern we have to overcome," says Marilyn.
While renovations are underway, 30 to 40 women with children are all staying on one floor.
"We are still providing services despite the renovations," which are expected to be complete by February of next year.
Marilyn thanked the Rotary Club for its support "We can't do this alone. We are in the trenches and we appreciate all the help we get."
Marilyn says there is always a need for volunteers. They provide programs for residents and they can use help from people who have an expertise in cooking, sewing or crafts or perhaps others who can drive residents to appointments.
In particular, the centre needs some help decorating, once the renovations are complete.
"We are trying to give it a homey look."
She said Rotary has been "part of our team" and that she looks forward to a continuing relationship.
