FAME seeks new support programs

The Family Association for Mental Health Everywhere (FAME) hopes to expand its services in Peel Region to assist children and youth who have family members affected by mental illness.
FAME's executive director Michael McCamus told our club that his organization helps reduce the stress of coping with mental illness by strengthening and supporting family members in their role as caregivers.
FAME offers support for spouses, parents, siblings, adults, youth and children.
Research shows that family caregivers can impact positively on recovery, which means less hospital time and an improved prognosis for full recovery.
Despite funding from the provincial ministry of health, FAME does not have the resources to meet the need in the GTA.
FAME provides five programs:
Family support worker (two in Toronto and one in Peel)
Family support groups
Education groups
Social and recreational programming
Children's support programs
Michael says he is looking for partners to help offset the costs of establishing children and youth support programs in Peel.
