Ev Biggs Memorial Scholar to Speak May 8

Leslie Roach was born and raised in Brampton. She attended Parkway Public School, W.G. Davis middle school and Turner Fenton High School. During her time in Brampton she was actively engaged in community service, with such organizations as the Canadian Cancer Society, The Terry Fox Foundation and the Heart and Stroke Society. 

Leslie completed her undergraduate education at Brock University in Environment with the help of the Ev. Biggs Memorial Scholarship. At Brock, Leslie successfully ran a referendum to create the Universal Bus Pass System. She also founded the Brock Eco Club and was Vice-President for two years. Leslie received the Distinguished Graduate Award for graduating at the top of her class. 

In May 2005 Leslie traveled to Peru with other Brock students and community members to volunteer in the shanty towns outside of Lima. The trip was organized through Campus Ministries and Solidarity in Action. Leslie spent her time in Peru volunteering in a maternity clinic, several daycares and helping to construct a school. In May 2006, Leslie will be traveling to Ecuador to conduct similar volunteer work. 

Leslie is currently enrolled at the University of Waterloo where she is completing her Masters of Environment and Resources Studies. Leslie continues to be engaged in the conservation movement, as the Secretary for the Founding Committee for the Niagara Land Trust. Leslie is also part of the UW Community Garden.

Leslie has maintained the highest grade average of any of our Ev Biggs Memorial Scholars.  She is the first to have her scholarship award extended into her post graduate studies.  Ev would be proud.
