Engaging our community

Pressing community issues
At last week's meeting President Matt initiated table discussions to talk about the most pressing issues in our community. The group came up with the following:
- Poverty in Peel; Rotary can look at supporting a literary program in Brampton
- Mental health; key factors in a healthy community – look at kids before their 18th birthday, early intervention is the key
- Teenage pregnancy – Rotary can help with this issue by supporting the walk-a-thon program run by Rapport. This year it will take place June 27th.
- Child obesity – inactive, not getting the right food
- Regeneration support program

- Peter is collecting books for Brampton Civic Hospital Gift Shop. If you have any books that you do not want, please give to Peter as the Gift Shop will sell them and funds raised will go towards the community.
Do you think this will change in the next 5 years?
- Educating people will make a difference
- We have to try to make a dent in these issues – Rotarians always see an opportunity to make things better.

Please email points to Matt on how we can volunteer our club to be more involved and visible in the community.
Service above self – when at a meeting, take a selfie picture – promote the cause and once a month a prize will be assigned to service above selfie.
What International projects would you like to see the club involved in?

Old projects work well but a few new initiatives are important.
