Elections continue this week
Take Notice that an election for three directors to the Rotary Board for the term July 1st, 2005 to June 30th, 2007 is underway. There is still an opportunity to vote for a candidate at this week's meeting.
Next year's executive was affirmed by the club - Ed Boonstra as President, Sheila Winsor as President elect, Stephen Rhodes as Vice-President, Glenn Williams as Treasurer and Len Mikulich as Secretary.
The following Rotarians have been nominated for three positions on the Board of Directors:
Bill CHARLES, Dittie HAY, Doug LEIGHTON and Daisy OLIVER and Ken SPREEN.
Each nominee gave a short speech outlining their qualifications.
Dittie Hay noted that she has been active in community for many years and that Rotary was a natural extension of that work. She has served in Children's charities, chairing the Annual Dinner Dance and Auction and the Fashion Show for Polio Plus. She has also worked on Thunder Run, Skate-a-thon and the Santa Barbecue. Outside of Rotary she is a member of BPW - Business and Professional Women, a past director of the Brampton Board of Trade and active in the YMCA's luncheon series and fashion show.
Doug Leighton has also served on many Rotary committees and a champion for the poor. He has been our project leader in Arusha and annually delivers shoeboxes to children in Mexico. Doug has been a member of the board in the past and he would love the opportunity to serve again.
Daisy Oliver is currently director of Children's Charities and has chaired Thunder Run, Dreams Take Flight and Euchre Nights and has served on many other committees. She says Rotary is a big part of her life. "It's made me a better person."
Ken Spreen has been a club member for eight years and would like to serve as a member of the board. He has worked on a number of committees and makes an effort to be involved in every Rotary activity. "I think I could provide some incite into the decision-making process, although I support the changes that are underway."
Bill Charles was not availble to speak to the club on Monday and he will be given an opportunity on Monday.
