Easter Seals awards presentations

On Monday last, Ed Boonstra, club vice-president and chair of the Easter Seals committee, presented special awards to our sponsors for their contribution to our club's efforts to raise money for Easter Seals.
Moreover, the club presented a cheque for $50,000 to Easter Seals.
Ed acknowledged the work of club members and in particular three key committees - Thunder Run, Skate-a-thon and the annual Silent Auction and Dance for making a significant contribution to children in need.
Cathy Cleverly, District Manager for Peel and Etobicoke Easter Seals, (pictured with Ed) says Easter Seals can help children and young adults "because of the generous support from Rotary."
Committee chairs were recognized for their work and offered some insights into next year's events.
Thunder Run
Thunder Run Chair Paul Chisholm said they raised $50,000 last year and that the event keeps getting bigger thanks to the support they receive from two key groups - the Big Smoke Riders of Toronto and the Gold Wing Touring Association of Mississagua.
Next year's event is June 26 at Chinguacousy Park.
Dinner dance
Dittie Hay, chair of the annual silent auction and dinner dance says they raised about $10,500 last year and they are looking for an even bigger event this year - tentatively planned for April 3 at Century Gardens. The theme will be a barn dance and a professional square dancing troupe has been hired to keep things moving.
Skate-a-thon
Chair Wendell Brown says Skate-a-thon, which has been running for 12 years, raised about $25,000 last year. This year's event is scheduled for February 15 at Gage Park.
All three chairman thanked the Peel Regional Police and the Firefighters for supporting these events.
