John Gilvesy
The Rotary Club of Brampton welcomes John Gilvesy, District Governor 2018 – 2019. John is Past President and President of Rotary, Tillsonburg and he has been with the Club since 1987. He spent 3 years as Assistant Governor of the Woodstock cluster. John is married with two children and two grandchildren. He is a Professional Engineer and Builder and Past President of a local Real Estate Board.

John is happy to be in the presence of his mentor, Norm Bindon. We are lucky, we have no disease; we help to heal people. It is important that we understand our community and communicate well. We have something to deliver, we deliver hope and we make a difference. In Rotary we are not alone, we have more to give and we have chosen to do that. Rotary is about uniting people and we must take action to serve people. There are three priorities this year:

  1. Strengthen our clubs; for those who have more, more is expected. Include skill sets on our Websites. The Rotary Club of Brampton has done a great job with this.

  1. Enhance our Club’s image. Upload pictures and let our community know who we are; sell the value of Rotary. Think about a satellite club with young entrepreneurs. Invite Rotaract members to meetings. They will remember the fellowship and networking of your club.

  1. Increase humanitarian services. It is important especially for Polio Plus. We are now down to 13 cases.

In Tillsonburg, they have a global grant project going on. The District and Rotary International will match all clubs that contribute $1500. Amount raised will go to Honduras, Phase 6 of a 10 Phase project of $400,000 micro financing. The people in Honduras are so poor; they have nothing, no jobs. They get micro financing (little loans) and as they grow, they hire someone. They want hand up, not a hand out.

When we bring in members, do it with fun, excitement, and energy and with some entertainment. Sell the value of what we are doing. We are successful, we make a difference.

As Paul Harris said “Let us be known for the results we achieve”.
