PDG Norm Bindon introduced our guest speaker current DG Bernd Dinnert who was making his annual visit to our Club.
Bernd immigrated from Berlin to Edmonton Alberta and entered into the construction industry. When he picked up a male hitchhiker one day the discussion turned to the fact that on the coming weekend was his birthday. When asked if there was to be a birthday party Bernd replied "no, as he didn't yet have any friends" - with that the hitchhiker advised that he and his friends would give him a birthday party the next Saturday - which they did and Bernd had his first new friends with whom he still stays in contact with.
His message was in effect to make your new members to feel welcome in your Club And to involve them in Club activities.
He was pleased when women were allowed to join Rotary as they have added diversity and taken on more than their share of the activity work.
RI theme is "building communities and bridging continents" with emphasis on finishing the Polio Plus Program.
Pres. Bob Cranch thanked the speaker.
