Creating a healthy lifestyle
Sandra Cunha-Cabral, certified Brampton YMCA personal trainer, says small steps can lead to significant change and a healthy lifestyle.
In her presentation to Rotary, she talked about the importance of setting goals but proceeding in small steps, steps that include healthy eating, physical activity and bahavior modification.
Generally, she advised members to follow the Canada Food Guide for healthy eating. She encouraged not only cardiovascular exercise but also strength training. And she said it's important to keep journals to help develop good habits and to stay on track and motivated.
The Y offers free consultation, monthly workshops, personal and group training, weight management classes - all with qualified and knowlegeable associates.
Sandra worked with the Brampton Board of Trade to create the "2005 Get Fit with the YMCA Challenge" involving many members in developing healthy eating and activity plans - including John Sanderson in his amazing journey. He lost 30 pounds and 27 inches.
