ImageImageFor years,  Rotary clubs in the U.S. have distributed dictionaries to Grade 3 classes as a literacy donate and deliver,  hands- on Rotary  project.

In 2006, the project was introduced to district 7080, west of Toronto. 20,000 Rotary customized books were ordered.

The dictionary is a soft cover Webster's version -  CANADIAN  edition. On the front of the book is a Rotary logo. On the back cover is a brief history of Rotary and the 4 way test

People ask “Why Grade 3 ?”
The focus of the book is to learn how to lookup words and this happens in Grade 3. It’s practice, practice.
Further, 80 % of the students have a dictionary at home, however it’s a family book. The Rotary dictionary is the property of the student and  they take it back and forth to school

The children really appreciate this gift from the community – someone cares about them.

John and Tim presented dictionaries to a bright group of Grade 3 studensts at Pauline Vanier School.
