Major Gordon Armstrong (Salvation Army)

Major Armstrong was 19 years when he got married and has been married for 43 years. He has seven grandchildren. He has been a Rotarian since 1980 and has watched Rotary grow. His Dad was in the Salvation Army in public relations and Major Armstrong was a camp director in Saskatchewan. The SA is a fun organization to work for, the days are long but you meet all kinds of people. They have a missing person’s bureau set up with a 68% find.

The Salvation Army started in England and is well respected all over the world in 125 countries. 96 cents of every dollar raised goes to programming; none of the donated money goes to administration. The Salvation Army raised $191,000 from kettles last year and Rotary is a big supporter of this event.

The Salvation Army is an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church, caring for people holistically. Its mission is to share love and meet human needs without discrimination.

The Salvation Army is a place of hope, partnering with homeless individuals, families and others in building a healthy community in expression of God’s love.

Major Armstrong thanked the Rotary for what they do and encourage them not to stop.
