Uche Okugo

Uche is a transfer-in Rotarian from The Rotary Club of Ota in Nigeria. He has a long history with Rotary. At his Rotary Club in Nigeria he was elected Treasurer 2007/2008 and served as Club Secretary 2014/15 and 2015/16. He was elected VP in 2016 and served on various Club and District committees. He also contributed to the formation of two Interact Clubs. He was President Elect 2017/18. He participated actively in Polio Immunization and Nigeria is very close to becoming polio free. When Uche joined the Rotary Club of Ota in 2014, there were thirteen members and by the time he left they had 53 members.

Uche met his wife in Rotary. They got married October 2011. Everything in life started with family. He comes from a family of seven, learned key watch-words of life from his Dad. He learned the focus from his eldest brother and saw his Mum show love beyond her children.

Uche was given a strong foundation. He studied Civil Engineering in University. When he immigrated, his work started in the telecom industry then to telecom infrastructure maintenance. He migrated to Real Estate, corporate building services and now he is in facilities operations and maintenance, currently Operations Coordinator with the City of Brampton. His responsibility is spread around the City Centre.

For Uche, it’s not all work. He has visited Niagara Falls, was part of a tennis game event, participated in Halloween. His hobbies include traveling and football (soccer in North America).

It was a memorable day for Uche when he became a Rotarian at the Rotary Club of Brampton. He felt very welcomed as soon as he walked through the door.  He commends the Rotary club of Brampton for the wonderful work they are doing. He is having a good time in Canada and believes the best is yet to come. Uche will serve as a Rotary Club of Brampton Board Member starting in July 2019.

In closing, Uche delivered a quote by Paul Harris: “May our happiness increase with our usefulness.”
