Children's Charity report

President Elect Ed Boonstra reports that the children's charity committee raised $39,000 through activities this year.
Each member of the committee gave a brief report of last year's activities and upcoming events in 2004-2005.
Daisy, reporting for Jerome, said last year's Teen Dances were a great success. The two seasonal dances, planned again this year around Hallowe'en and Valentine's Day attract about 40 young people.
Daisy also reported that Thunder Run netted about $15,000 this year. There were more than 500 people in Ching Park with about 230 motorcycle riders. The pancake breakfast, two hour ride and show and shine were highlights of the event. This year's event is planned June 25, 2005. The goals is to attract 500 motorcycles.
Ed picked up on the annual Children's Picnic held during Thunder Run, saying this year the location was moved closer to the motorcycles so kids could feel part of the activities.
Games, karaoke, a barbecue with local firefighters and, of course, the tiger were highlights.
Past President Wendell reported that Skate-a-thon now in its 13th year needs to be re-visited this year to attract more people - perhaps ice sculpture, sports celebrities as new dimensions. This year it's planned for Feb 20, 2005.
Wendell said Skate-a-thon needs more sponsors and more participation.
The Annual Dinner Dance and Silent Auction, in recent years The Barn Dance, will get a facelift and a new time in 2005, reports Dittie Hay.
This year's event will be a celebration of Octoberfest and held Oct. 15, 2005 at Century Gardens, so auction donors and participants should mark their calendars.
The Santa Claus Barbecue is a good event that needs more support from the club. About six to eight people are needed each year for this event. This year the Santa Claus Parade is Nov. 20, 2004
The annual "Appreciation Night" celebration for sponsors and supporters of Children's Charities is moving to a dinner meeting this year on Oct 14, a Thursday to better facilitate attendance.
Ed also reported the Easter Seals telethon -this year on Feb. 6, 2005- raised $12,000. We always need people to man the center panel so anyone interested should contact Ed.
And the annual Children's Christmas Party is always a great event for kids, Ed said. Children under 14 are invited and everyone gets a present from Santa. This year the party is planned for Dec. 12, 2004
All speakers thanked sponsors and supporters as well as committee members and in particular the support received from the other Brampton Rotary Clubs and the Chinguacousy Lions.
