Child Safety paramount

The number one cause of injury or death to Canadian children under the age of 14 is motor vehicle collision. To help combat this, children need to be in a proper child restraint, particularly if they are under 8 years of age.

"Unfortunately, there is a lot of confusion among parents and grandparents about correct and safe car seats", say Tina Hickey and Debbie Campbell of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services.

In their roles within the city's Fire Department, they have championed educating consumers about protecting children in the event of serious accident in a car. They visit those community groups where they can have the greatest impact, such as prenatal classes.

The key issues include choosing the correct car seat from the many that are available and making sure that this seat is correctly installed

They also highlighted a DVD that has been developed by our Fire Department that deals with the most important issues. These DVD's are available through the City and the Fire Department. The 25 minute instruction is also available on the "Today's Parent" website.
