Chief Jennifer Evans

On October 12, 2012, Detective Jennifer Evans was appointed as Chief of the Peel Regional Police Force.  Chief Evans oversees the activity of 1900 uniformed officers and 800 civilian employees.  This year the force will be adding 22 uniformed officers and 5 civilian employees.  2012 saw two deputy chiefs appointed and three new superintendents (divisional commanders).  There are 40+ specialized units within the force, and Chief Evans is quite proud that Peel Regional Police has been recognized as one of the top employers in the GTA in 2012 and 2013.

 T.R.U.S.T.is the acronym for the values that the force abides by, standing for trust, respect, understanding, safety and transparency.  In this regard, there is a commitment to have officers in every high school and middle school.  This has been undertaken to change the stereotype of police officers as being the enemy to one of trust and co-operation.  One can even follow Peel Regional Police on twitter!

The Youth and Policing Initiative brings 1,500 high school students together with policing during the summer months, allowing them to gain an understanding of all that is involved with policing in Peel. 

Pocket dials to 911 are one of the bigger challenges facing the force.  The number of calls to 911 has increased, with 22% being criminal and 78% being non-criminal calls.  Last year there were 690,000 calls made.  Out of those, 231,000 were calls for police service and when a call is made to 911, whether it is a criminal or non-criminal call, officers are dispatched which puts a strain on the proactive policing that the force would rather do, such as improving road safety.
