Rotarian Jerome McDawson programmed an excellent tribute to Robbie Burns at our annual Robbie Burns Luncheon on April 27.  Complete with piper, Dr. David MacDougall and raconteur Paul Federico, a scrumptious haggis was celebrated (and eaten).

The traditional late-winter meal of haggis (made from cereal, veggies and meat) was celebrated as a tribute to the ingenuity of the cook who could make a hardy meal when the pantry was low, which would keep the family warm and well-fed.

Celebrating the 255th birthday of Burns, Paul Federico gave both a rendition of the poem, and colourful interpretation.  Many thanks to all who participated, including the proudly Scottish readers Brad McGoodison, John McMullen, Glenn McWilliams, Badar MacShamim (with a great accent), Peter McWard and Dittie McVoegele.  Our President-Elect was part of the escort for the haggis – and accepted the traditional compliment to the meal – a good shot of Scotch!

Thanks to Jerome, Carl’s Catering – and all those who attended.  As we concluded the meeting, we sang Auld Lang Syne – a song urging us to both be kind to each other and not forget these good times.  Great advice 200 years old!
