Carole's classification
Carole was introduced by John Lomax, and noted for her long-time commitment to the District RYLA program.
Carole's classification is Mental Health Administration. Her professional career starting in high school when she worked for the Royal Trust, She started full-time in business in 1961, working for about 10 years before returning to George Brown College to study Addiction Counselling. She worked at the Addiction Research Foundation, with responsibility for projects including 12 Madison (youth "street" clinic) and 8 May Street (treatment centre for employed alcoholics).
Graduating from George Brown in 1971 she started Youth Clinical Services in the Jane/Finch area with York-Finch Hospital and later worked on initial development of Central Toronto Youth Services (Toronto).
After the birth of her two daughters, she began volunteering and again started a new agency, Malton Neighbourhood Services. This grew into a large multi-service centre with about 100 staff providing services to newcomers, youth, teens, seniors and with a refugee/newcomer reception service at Pearson Airport.
After l8 years she left this position to be self-employed as an instructor at Sheridan College, chaplain with the Unitarian Congregation and social service projects until hired by the Mississauga Garden Council in 2000 to start up a 150 acre park on the Credit River. It is now open and offers nature education programs to children as well as a beautiful leisure spot for everyone to enjoy.
Currently she is working part-time for her husband, clinical/forensic psychologist, Dr. Richard Berry and ACER - the Association for Canadian Educational Resources. This environmental NGO promotes education on climate change.
Volunteer community activities Rotary (joined in 1989), International RYLA, organizing Seedy Saturday (February 28/09) to promote gardening and environment; Leprosy Mission - saving used stamps to pay for medications; and the District Rotary Youth Leadership Program. She is inspired by working with young people.
