Bill's great adventure

Bill Charles, our newest Rotarian, says that an eight-month stint backpacking around Europe in 1989 provided great life lessons that are still important to him today.
"I learned about myself, about the importance of making friends, about making decisions and being independent, all things that are important in my life today."

Bill is a regional director with the Investor's Group and his classification talk last Monday touched on the importance of setting goals to be successful.
"On my first day with Investor's Group, I decided I wanted to be a regional director before age 30."
Within a year Bill was a field trainer. Within another year Bill became a division manager and within two months of his 30th birthday he became the youngest regional director in Canada.
"I wasn't smarter than anyone else, or more skilled - I knew exactly what I wanted and it just speaks to the power of setting goals."
Bill says Investor's provides six areas of expertise for its clients - retirement, tax, estate, education, insurance and investment planning.
"We provide detailed written plans to help our clients get to where they want to go, customized to their needs."
Bill's Rotary involvment is a natural outgrowth of a commitment the Investor's Group has already made to the community. IG is involved in the All Kids'Park, an annual corn roast, the Santa Claus parade and an annual Christmas Food Drive.
"We believe in giving back."
Bill says he came to Rotary after crossing paths with Norm Bindon.
"Rotary has a solid reputation for its contributions to community and it will allow me to focus my involvement in a more organized way."
Bill is married to Beverly and has two children, Christopher, 5 and Nicole, 3.
Bill is still an active sportsman in hockey and baseball.
