Beware of mold
Rotarian Ralph Edwards was our guest speaker last week and he warned that all homes and offices should be checked for mold because it can lead to expensive cleanups and health problems.
Ralph says every home has mold. There is mold in food, on clothing, in HVAC systems, on drywall, in kitchens and bathrooms and often in basements where there is evidence of moisture.
Most molds are not dangerous but some can get out of hand when mixed with water. Mold is the symptom and water is the problem, says Ralph. He says it's almost impossible to get rid of mold because it has unvbelieveable suvival chracteristics. He advised that homeowners check for visible indications of mold, dark marks on drywall or ceilings, evidence of water damage or a dank smell.
Mold can cause health problems ranging from an alergic reaction to more serious breathing complications. He says ensure that moisture problems are under control and there is good ventilation in your home or office. He advised having ducts cleaned every 5 years.
The key is once you discover a problem, deal with it.
