Bethell Hospice

 

Julie Hymers is the Fundraising Manager for Bethell Hospice Foundation. She has a master’s degree in communication and has done a lot of volunteering in the community. The fundraising target for Bethel is $1M each year.

 

Bethell Hospice started 25 years ago, the residence opened five years ago.  At Bethell, they believed that no one should die alone in death. The hospice is focused on individual personalized care. They provide care to persons living with a life-threatening illness when care at home is no longer practical.

 

The goal of the organization is for health care professionals and volunteers to work together to provide care and a secure environment so that families are free to make those last moments the most meaningful. They have an amazing team of staff who are there seven days a week. There are ten beds at Bethel. Every one of the rooms has a wide door that opens into the garden. All dinners are made by volunteers; they have over 200 volunteers The Hospice is a haven of support for individuals; there is no cost to residents, no opportunity that a resident would be denied care. The criterion to occupy a bed at Bethell is end of life diagnosis. 43% of residents are from Brampton.

 

It’s a special place and the Foundation has to raise $1M every year to keep the doors open, therefore, in order to get there, they need a lot of help from everyone.
