BBOT praises our support

Michael Luchenski, President of The Brampton Board of Trade, praised Rotary's ongoing support for the annual Santa Claus parade, reminding us about our partnership to improve our community.
Michael said Rotary's involvement allowed the parade to survive when it moved to a night-time event. "We value your continued support for the kids in what has become the single biggest annual event in this city."
Estimates this year conclude that about 150,000 people lined the streets to watch the parade.
Michael pointed out that the Santa Claus Parade is a separate corporation that is self-funded, endeavoring to break even each year. "Rotary's $10,000 gift is much appreciated and much needed and we hope you will continue to fund at this level in the future."
He also talked about the work of the 1,200 member Board of Trade.
"Our objective is similar to Rotary in that we are an organization of business people working to improve our community. We are an advocate for business, working to create a good environment for business, which is dependent on the vibrancy and strength of our community."
Michael mentioned but three of the many issues that the BBOT has been actively involved including lobbying for the completiton of Highway 410, urging the constuction of a new hospital and support for regional government in Peel.
"We are one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and we will be facing many issues over the next few years as Brampton's population grows. The Board of Trade will be a voice for our community during this challenging time."
