Awards of Appreciation

Two special awards of appreciation were presented to Steve Wilson and Bert Post at the spring Paul Harris awards night last Monday.
Few service clubs can maximize their success without the co-operation and assistance of the communities within which they do their charitable work. Steve Wilson may be a non-member "but in our hearts he is a Rotarian", said Rob van Kessel during his comments.
In 2002, Steve Wilson received a Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
Steve began his career with the City of Brampton in 1979 where be works in the Brampton Parks department. He has worked tirelessly outside of his regular duties on such things as the Santa Claus Parade Committee, assisted with our annual Skate-a-thons and Blade-a-thons in Gage Park, Community Cleanups, Canada Day celebrations and numerous other special events.
Over the years, Steve has given a lot of his own time to help Rotary run its events as smoothly as possible where City parks are involved. He is a reliable, dedicated and devoted fellow who never asks for recognition but deserves it unquestionably. When informed about receiving a certificate of appreciation, Steve said he gets enough recognition from just doing the work.
Steve was unable to be at the Paul Harris night because he is on his honeymoon.
Bert Post first joined Rotary in 1969 and has provided "tremendous" service to the Rotary Club of Brampton for 34 years. He is a Paul Harris awardee and a past president during the "IMP" years- Ingebertson in '74, McIntyre in '75 and Post in '76 - Carl explained in his comments on Monday.
Bert is the former administrator of Peel Memorial Hospital and owner of Woodhill Park Retirement Village, currently managed by his son Andy. Bert was born and raised in Brampton and hails from the same street that produced two other Rotary presidents - Jack Corney and Wendell Brown.
"Bert Post is an active and knowlegeable Rotarian and a close friend," Carl said. "He was always been at the forefront of discussions on key club matters, like the purchase of Rutherford Bingo and Rotary Glen. He has offered his administrative experience to Rotary so many times and that is appreciated. It makes you the ideal Rotarian."
Bert was also recognized for his contribution to producing a history of the club on its 60th anniversary.
Bert's wife and sons Doug and Andy were also in attendance for the presentation.
