Antartic beauty

Alex Lent thanked the club for an amazing experience touring parts of the Antartic in December 2002. She was a member of a team of 25 students and 45 adults who spent two weeks exploring the theme of global warming.
The trip, arranged by Students on Ice, took 48 hours by plane. The last leg was aboard a Russian ice-breaker.
"We traversed some of the roughest water in the world", she said.
"We had lots of discussions about how to change the world."
Alex said she made life-long friendships with many of the people on the tour. And they came from all over the world.
She talked and showed photographs of "gorgeous" glaciers, huge iceburgs and seemingly endless vistas.
"We saw humpback whales, dolphins, leopard seals and penguins, lots of penguins. We learned a lot from on-board specialists in daily workshops, debates and lectures."
During the trip, two crews were filming the journey, which culminated in a full-length documentary.
"It was the trip of a lifetime and I am grateful for your support," she told the club.
