Celebrating 80 years

This past Tuesday evening, (April 18th), Willard and I were privileged to attend an Anniversary Gala to help celebrate the Rotary Club of Orangeville 80th Year serving their community.

The evening began at 5pm with a Meet and Greet Reception.  At 6pm the program commenced with Town Crier for Caledon & Erin, Andrew Welch, Emcee, Doug Harkness (Rotary Club of Orangeville) and Blessing for the food by Pastor Don Fitchett.

After a delicious meal, we were entertained by "Rhythmfoot" the Leahy Family, with a pairing of drums, fiddle and step dance.  Frank and Chanda Leahy and their six children reside in Orangeville and provided us with an excellent show.

Greetings from the Province were received by Sylvia Jones, MPP, Dufferin-Caledon.  Bob Burnside (RCO) provided us with a history of their Club.  We then viewed a video: "Every Town Needs a Doc" a motivational story of community development highlighting John (Doc) Gillies and his contribution to the community.

Greetings from District 7080 were received from District Governor Bill Proctor.  Our Keynote Speaker was John Stairs, Past District Governor 7080 and Vice President The Rotary Foundation Canada who provided us with a history of Polio and Rotary's part in "End Polio Now".

We had a wonderful evening and enjoyed meeting other Rotarians.  The Rotary Club of Orangeville sponsored our club 75 years ago and we were honoured to attend this special event on behalf of our Club.
