Akela provides inspiration

Akela grew up in Brampton and was part of the original team that started
the Mayfield Arts Program. In 1999 she was chosen to go to Osaka, Japan
as a Rotary Exchange Student and she consistently spreads the word
about the good that Rotary does.
Akela is the founder of an organization twelve years ago called Youth in Motion. She talked about the Top 20 Under 20 Program, which is more than an award; it is an experience and an opportunity that can change one's life.
In today's competitive world, success requires much more than academic achievement and any well-rounded young person who has demonstrated significant levels of innovation, leadership and achievement can apply. She showed slides of some incredible students who raised a lot of money for charity and who are incredible role models for their peers.
Akela ended her talk with a few quotes as follows:
"Ability may get you to the top but it takes character to keep you there."
"Never doubt that a group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the
world – in fact, it is the only thing that ever has."
