For Reese Boers, a walk though the Grand Canyon was a near cathartic experience.

"I was very emotional after completing the walk, I am not normally an emotional person."

Reese, a Rotarian of 23 years and three-time president, is a member of Brampton-Milton.

The hike from the north to the south rim is 23 miles and involves a vertical drop of 6,000 feet to the canyon floor and a climb of 7,200 feet to the far rim.

"You need to be fit and educated," Reese told the club.

Reese has visited the canyon three times and twice he walked from rim to rim.

Why?

"I guess because it's there and it's so spectacular."

On his last trip, Reese used his spectacular walk as a fundraiser for PolioPlus and he urged club members to find their own Grand Canyon to help raise money for this worthwhile cause.
