$50,000 finishes commitment to Sheridan

When it was first announced, Club President Ed Boonstra said, "this is a sizeable contribution for our club but we felt the new centre represents a tremendous opportunity for young people in our community and it will help to service an emerging shortage of skilled trades as well.” Boonstra said the gift to Sheridan is part of the club's belief in "working together to make our community better."

"We believe it's important to support our community and Sheridan's new centre touches two of our primary areas of interest - supporting youth and business."

President Stephenson paid the final installment at a club meeting on Monday.

“Much has happened over the seven years.  We persevered through our own shortfalls as bingo revenue declined for a number of years. We also witnessed one of the biggest economic downturns since the Great Depression.  Through it all we remained firm to our original commitment, it just took a little longer,” Stephenson said.

The Rotary Club of Brampton is an organization of business and professional leaders, who are united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Club has also been involved in a number of significant projects in the city – building the skating trail at Gage Park ($250,000) , supporting construction of a 24-bed apartment for the homeless at St. Leonard’s Place $250,000); the pool at Brampton YMCA ($500,000); equipment for Peel Memorial Hospital ($500,000) and annual support for the Santa Clause Parade since 1993.
