Dear Rotarians and friends of the club, 

living in Phuket poses its unique challenges due to its multi-cultural environment. Various cultures from around the world meet / work together and sometimes do not understand each other. Our guests speaker Angela Heise from Germany has lived in many countries and exepirenced this first hand. As a personal coach she made this topic a core skill for executives to learn in order to manage their international organisations in a better way. Now she will help us to live better together....

When we interact with others from the same culture within the same cultural context, we automatically follow unconscious rules. Asking someone to describe what these rules are is like asking a fish to describe water. We live in a behavioural values framework we take completely for granted.

When we then come across people from other cultures, uncomfortable emotions and unexpected reactions tell us that we can no longer depend on these rules. We can no longer rely on our perception about what is appropriate behaviour and what isn’t, what works and what doesn’t.
