Last week our Rotary Club held a special meeting that was attended by District Officers. The meeting was held at the Mill Creek Tavern, Speaker for the event was Rotary District Governor Paul Heroman, who presented a highly motivational speech.

Due to the uncertainties of the operating hours at the Swan Inn, our club decided to continue meeting at the Mill Creek Tavern for the remainder of this year.
This week we met once again, and our speaker was Joseph Jones, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships with West Michigan Feeding America. He gave an exceptionally good presentation on the operation of the organization, the partnership with other food banks, and their relationship with grocery store. One interesting fact is that monetary donations are much preferred over non-perishable food donations because a one-dollar gift can provide for eight to ten meals. 1,500 mobile food pantries brought groceries directly to high-need communities. Our Rotary club has a good relationship with Feeding America. We were able to donate a considerable amount of money at the beginning of the COVID epidemic, and our members have volunteered at their facility a number of times.

The community drive for outer garment that ended October 31 was a remarkable success. Many of the items are being laundered and will then be distributed to families whose children attend Comstock Park and Kenowa Hills schools.
Last month, our club donated $2,500 to Mary Free Bed Auxiliary for them to purchase equipment for infants who have difficulty swallowing their food. In addition, our club has applied for a matching grant from Rotary International distributed to our District. There is a plan to tour their facility in February.
Our club was recently informed that a family whose kids attend Alpine Elementary School needed cleaning supplies, and we were pleased to be able to provide those.
Following our meeting on November 17 members of our club will have the opportunity to tour Alpine Township’s new Fire Station and Community Center on Henze Drive.
Members once again hope to do bell ringing for the Salvation Army at Walmart on Thursday December 15. On Saturday, December 19, members of our club will once again assist the Santa Girls in delivering gifts to needy families.
There is a plan that early next year, our club will host an after-hours event and invite potential new members. Anyone interested in getting more information about Rotary can e-mail answers@cprotary.com.
