Membership Director Laurie Dines was in charge of our first new member induction.The way he runs his business and interacts fairly with people on a daily basis. His keenness to reward others for a job well done, hence our coffee runs to those working on public holidays, the team at Bicycles for Humanity.
From that very first meeting with Nadeem, his keen interest in Rotary and our club and what could he could offer prompted me and others to ask the question?? Would you like to attend a meeting, his response was simply, “I want to join your club, I have already seen what you do and I want to be a part of it”, this he has told me on a number of occasions
So, a little about Nadeem who grew up in Jordan, one of 5 children and started working at the age of 10. He had always wanted to own his own business and through hard work finally achieved his Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, it was then that his life went “Pear Shape” and he became a refugee in his own town, Ten years in hell until he was one of the 25,000 refugees accepted entry into Australia.
Since then, his promise to himself was Never to work for anyone but himself and to thank the country who recognised that he was a human being. 
His family and friends had doubted him because he had no money but through a friend, he was fortunate in obtaining a loan and this is where his story starts!!
Tonight I feel privileged to welcome and introduce to you Nadeem Turkia for membership into the RCGG as our very first new member since amalgamation."
