On March 7-8, a dedicated team of volunteers helped host our 17th Rotary WA Driver Education program at Towns Football Club for 266 Midwest year 10-11 students.
Our driver education program is extremely valuable and it's incredibly fulfilling to see everyone work together towards a common goal of providing an exceptional driver education program.

Rotary in partnership with WA Police, St John Ambulance, DFES Geraldton Fire Station and our Alliance Partners are working together Regionally and in Metro areas to decrease serious injury and deaths in our young drivers who represent a disproportionate number of fatalities on WA Roads.
RWADE – Rotary WA Driver Education is a Six Rotational program held at Towns Football Club by the two Geraldton Rotary Clubs, Rotary Club of Greater Geraldton and RC of Batavia Coast. It involves year 10 -11 Midwest students prior to them gaining their driver’s license to provide greater road safety awareness to prevent the loss of young lives.
Obtaining a driver’s licence is a dream for most young people, but learning the skills whilst driving on our regional roads has for many come at a cost! RWADE provides sustainable outcomes by providing Mid West School students prior to them obtaining their driving licences with the necessary skills and road safety awareness through the implementation of a structured and well recognised Road Safety Community Project.
The Rotary WA Driver Education program has been running in the Midwest since 2015 working with 12 Midwest Schools. Through the “Keys for Life” program now adopted by most schools,
RWADE has been selected as the perfect alignment with Midwest schools now locking in annually for their students to attend. The future of the Midwest is in our Youth. By education through driver awareness these young people can be given the chance to grow up and participate in community decisions and achievements.
Volunteers who join the RWADE program, bring a vast range of skills and experience, they are highly skilled and aware in the area of working with young people and are in turn rewarded knowing our communities will benefit long term.
Held at Towns Football Club and run by the Two Geraldton Rotary Clubs, we rely heavily on sourcing funding to ensure the continuation of RWADE's two Programs moving forward, giving longevity to RWADE. Grant funding covers the following: Presenters Fee - Crash Presenter "Danny Harrison" - Two Programs Accommodation Fuel & Meals - Crash Survivor Presenter & Carers Accommodation - Two nights - IBIS Styles Geraldton Venue Hire - Towns Football Club Venue Hire - Geraldton Squash Rackets Association ("My Wheels & Distraction Hazards & Risks" programs) Eppys Removals - Pick up/Return of RWADE equipment from Rotary Sea Container to Towns Football Club Catering, Morning Tea & Lunch- Students, Teachers and Volunteers - Two Programs Bottled Water - Two Programs Stationery assorted where required.
We were joined by our generous Geraldton Community Bank sponsors Kate York and Murilo Suzuki and on Friday Mayor Jerry Clune from the City of Greater Geraldton joining us for morning tea in the celebration of Bob Symington’s Birthday, we thank them immensely for their generous ongoing support and community funding enabling our work to continue.
