Chris Bucktin introduced Lizzie Robinson to give an update on her giant origami community project.
Lizzie has prepared a video which she plays for us. The ambition i
s to build a piece of origami that will take twelve people to operate.
Phase 1 was though was to build a smaller prototype that could be operated by four people to demonstrate and experiment with at the Festival of Light last year. This was achieved by help from the people involved with the local Dada Art Group and some seed funding from Rotary.
The challenge now is to create one that is metres wide and one and a half metres high. The prototype showed up some flaws in the structure particularly around the thickness of the paper and the need to coat the paper to protect it. However it was a success re community involvement.
At this stage Phase 2, the full scale version is on hold. Kye is keen to continue the community engagement side of the giant origami project and would like to spend more time in the workshop getting others involved.
