Winter Driving and

On January 2, 2010 the club members heard about winter driving techniques from ND Trooper Keith Huwe. His basic message: "The best safety equipment is between your ears". Not to utilize cruise control if there is any chance roads might be slippery, to slow down, how to correctly use ABS brakes and their advantage, utilizing safety equipment such as seat belts (one is eleven times as likely to survive a crash wearing belts than not; plus remaining sober and awake were his other key points. The trooper also took the opportunity to explain North Dakota's new wireless communication device law that now applies to text messaging. The law applies if in any way the person driving and texting is within the traffic pattern, even if stopped at a stop light. Persons with driver's licenses who are under eighteen are prohibited from using any type of electronic communications device, including cell phones, while driving. He also discussed the changes to teen licensing in North Dakota. There were a variety of questions on multiple diverse driving topics.
