Fargo-Moorhead AM talks about International Projects

During their regular meeting at Prante's on Tuesday March 20th members heard from Keith Brokke and Blake Crosby each of the FM-AM club. This club has led the way in international projects during the past few years and, as Keith pointed out, the Wahpeton club has consistently supported or been with them. Keith started by speaking of the World Community Service fund in District 5580. We are the only District in the world that funds construction projects in this innovative way. With the other three F-M area clubs and using District Funds they have led on the Handicapped Park and the Miracle Ball field in Fargo. However today they were in Wahpeton to speak of their international projects in Guatemala, India and Tanzania.

The Guatemala projects have been going on since 2003 in cooperation with the Vista Hermosa club of D 4250 (Guatemala, Honduras and Belize). They started with a medical clinic but have built 11 schools, done 3 corn meal grinding mills and 9 water projects since then. The square foot cost of building a school in Guatemala is $ 16 US. The FM-AM club assisted the Wahpeton club with its Guatemala library projects. Blake spoke of the 2012 projects, schools in El Dormido and San Antonio. In India they have done a variety of education projects. Currently being planned is an addition to the Meenakshipuran school originally built for 450 children but now housing 866.
