Congress Earl Pomeroy thanks Rotary

Joan Carlson, Congressman Pomeroy's ND eastern representtive was one of the first 2 women to join the Wahpeton Rotary in 1988. Representive Pomeroy spoke of how young people, through many school student councils, have filled the dome (in Fargo) and collected funds for the food bank. This is an example, he said, of how our founding fathers meant for Thanksgiving to be a way to "come together with humility, give thanks for our bounty, and share with others." Pomeroy noted how much his Rotary Foundation Award influenced his life. The award allowed him to study a year in England and to tour Europe. He spoke fondly of how the Valley City Rotarians cheered him on. He said, "Their confidence & support meant everything to me." He pointed out that these awards cannot be granted to children of Rotarians. Thus, Rotarian support of these scholarships is a great example of "Service Above Self."
